Hampton Injury Law was founded by attorney Jan Hoen. Mr. Hoen has significant experience in civil personal injury cases, which include automobile distracted driving and negligence, worker’s injury and compensation, and medical injury and malpractice. Personal and automobile injury cases require specialized experience and knowledge in handling the many distinct issues which can emerge in these types of cases–issues the can arise include negotiating and settling state and federal healthcare liens; insurance reimbursement for claims due to medical benefits that were paid by employer-funded health insurance plans; and aggressive litigation tactics that are often used by insurance defense lawyers. Mr. Hoen has been successful in recovering millions in compensation by his experienced representation for his clients in injury cases. His vast trial experience consists of medical malpractice, automotive personal injury, premises and product liability, dog bite injury, worker’s injury and compensation, civil disputes, traffic and criminal law cases, and much more.
Mr. Hoen was born in 1960 in Wageningen, a city in the Netherlands, and has lived in Australia, Ireland, and North Carolina before settling in Salem, Virginia. After he graduated from Salem High School, he served our country in the United States Army from 1979-1982. He was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following his military service he was awarded a scholarship at Roanoke College. He graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Mr. Hoen then went on to attend law school at the University of Richmond, and graduated in 1989. After graduating from law school, he worked as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr. on the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
From 1990 to present day, Mr. Hoen has been in the private practice of law in the state of Virginia. He began his career in private practice in Leesburg and Fairfax. He then moved to the Virginia Beach area and has practiced in Hampton Roads since that time. Since 1995, Mr. Hoen has gained great experience and knowledge in trying many cases to verdict throughout Virginia and the Hampton Roads region. He has also been successful at arguing and pursuing cases on appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been a successful trial attorney throughout his entire career.
Mr. Hoen has been a resident in Hampton and has continued to practice as a trial lawyer since 1999. He was married in 1986, and has three children. He is involved and active in his church and the Hampton community, serving as a lector at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and serves as an adult volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 84. He was also a former member on the school board for St. Mary Star of the Sea School, where his children completed their elementary education.
Mr. Hoen has been licensed since 1989 by the Virginia State Bar to practice in the courts of the Commonwealth. In 1993, he was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is currently a member of: The American Association for Justice, the Virginia Worker’s Compensation American Inn of Court, the American Society of Legal Advocates, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association, the Hampton Bar Association, and the Newport News Bar Association.
